S Short
Susan Short is an English artist, living in London, known for her woodcuts of landscapes and urban vistas. She studied at Manchester and Wimbledon School of Art, gaining an MA. Drawings, photographs, and paintings are made on site and, along with observations and memories, are then developed in the studio. The source materials are used to give a sense of place and atmosphere. For example, Nature Lover was inspired by the calming experience of walking among trees. The impression made by the woodblock references the wood of the trees. Being an organic material every piece of wood is different and the block with most appropriate grain is chosen according to the effect desired. Wood is difficult to cut and print but brings a unique texture and quality to the image. Susan Short exhibits her work regularly and has been selected several times for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
