East London Printmakers

Susan May

Susan May's collagraphs reveal a stark landscape inhabited by bold abstract entities. Susan studied jewellery at Hornsey College of Art; after many years as a studio jeweller she changed direction and began painting and printmaking. Referring to her observational drawings and photographs - often of industrial architecture, fairground rides, pre-historic stone graves, and simple everyday items - Susan constructs a variety of 'plates' which she prints and embosses onto paper, to produce unique collagraphs. The urge to make objects and experiment with materials, has always been key to her working methods. It is an investigative process and the end result is never wholly predictable.
