Rosalind Whitman
Biography for ELP website, 2024 Whitman is a figurative artist whose practice includes etching, painting, and relief sculpture. Her work is inspired by dreams, and mythology while her understanding of the historical context of particular material processes informs her preoccupation with the idea of alchemical transformation. She studied Fine Art at the Slade School, University College London, and later attended the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, University of Wales, where she gained a doctoral degree in 2017. The aim of her research was to understand more fully how the artist’s imagination is woven into the making process itself. Alongside her practice, Rosalind has worked as a freelance lecturer at a number of different colleges and universities. Whitman participates in several print collectives and her work is regularly included in mixed shows across the UK and abroad. Her solo exhibition, ‘Transformations’ took place at the Highgate Gallery, London, in September 2023.
