East London Printmakers

Nicole Polonsky

Since graduating with an MA Printmaking from the Royal College of Art, Nicole has continued to incorporate print into her multidisciplinary practice. She also conceives and produces collaborative projects, curates, and writes for publication. Her work has been exhibited internationally and acquired by public collections in the US, Spain and UK. It has been featured in art and design journals and the national press, as well as Thames & Hudson’s 'The Word is Art'. Through her work, Nicole muses on subjects that have been marginalised, overlooked or undervalued. Launched at Festival of Print 2023, the artist's screenprinted 'Fragment' collages belong to a wider venture in which she interrogates ‘mistakes’ – including dropped stitches and incorrect tension – identified in a garment knitted for her by her mother, Beata H Polonsky. These prints and other outcomes are informed by a reading of the garment as a metaphor for human frailty, struggle and resilience. Nicole will present an expanded iteration of this project in a solo show at MOCA London in 2024.
