East London Printmakers

Jenny Gloster Kok

Jennifer Gloster Kok is a printmaker exploring the processes of the natural world through the physical language of print. Her practice centres on the materiality of printmaking—where flow and obstacle, resist and corrosion, sedimentation and loss in the creation of the plate, the force of pressure and the unpredictable interaction of ink and substrate become active forces within the work. Rather than seeking metaphor or narrative, Jenifer’s prints aim to capture the dynamic forces of nature, creating pieces that resonate with the viewer on a visceral level, telling of the evolving vitality of everything. With a background in theatre design and crafts, Jennifer Gloster Kok brings a tactile sensitivity and intuitive understanding of materials to her printmaking. Years spent as a breakdown artist and prop maker honed her attention to texture, wear, weather and actions of forces—sensibilities that now underpin her use of substances often derived from the landscapes she visits and worked into pigments and inks, flowing mediums and resists
