East London Printmakers

Alan MacKenzie

Alan MacKenzie started investigating techniques and media of artistic production after retirement. His activities have produced a variety of paintings, in oils and acrylics, and he has also experimented with various modes of printmaking, including etching, woodcuts and linocuts. Most recently his interests have focused on the techniques and possibilities inherent in screenprinting. Following the closure of London Print Studio, where he did some initial workshops and then forced by the lockdown in 2020, he decided to build his own screenprinting facility in the garden studio, where most of the work is now produced. His artistic objective in screenprinting is to present personages, images or buildings in ways that generate interesting colour and quirky design twists. Generally the formats require many layers to create, often starting with photographic manipulations in Photoshop. A solo exhibition of his artworks was held in North London in spring 2022, as a fundraiser for the Disasters Emergency Committee.
