Collagraphs using Recycled Packaging
This is a course for those with experience of collagraphs. Using easily found packaging – the
shape of packaging can be used to suggest the printed composition – for example – long tall boxes may work well to use for tall buildings, boxes with braille such as medication boxes can work well as texture for a design. It is the ultimate course to emphasise the need to recycle and reuse.

The course begins with producing a quick simple collagraph using various types of tapes to
demonstrate how they can look when printed – shiny, matt and textured tape all give different results – this can help you get back into the swing of printing a collagraph quickly and effectively and a revision of inking techniques. Following on from this other collagraphs are created in a bit more depth – the packaging can be scraped away to create a darker tone when printed, shiny and matt surfaces are experimented with and chine colle can be used to highlight areas of colour.

It is an opportunity to experiment and have some fun with recycled packaging – materials that are easy to obtain and affordable – and that have a low environmental impact..
