Giorgia Bruni

As an artist, I am interested in working within themes of memory, place, migration and the international movement of information through imagery. Working autobiographically, I have been able to navigate these themes through the use of photographs of my home country - Thailand. During the last year of my practice, I chose to create an archive of images focusing on the telephone wires one can see hanging above the pavements in Bangkok. I used them as a visual anchor for my personal feelings of connection, disconnection, and nostalgic longing for home. These photographs, taken by my mother and sent to me, allow for the interaction with a remembered place without physically being there. I have continued to use the photographs within this archive as a starting point for my most recent works, dissecting, inspecting and restoring the image through multiple print making processes. These processes include screen-printing, digital printing, and recently photolithography and risography as well as collage and installation work.
