Gift Vouchers

Gift Vouchers

Just a quick reminder about the new East London Printmakers Gift Voucher Scheme. The ideal gift for any creative friends or family members, these vouchers present a perfect opportunity to re-ignite creative practices and introduce new faces to the studio.

Key facts about our new vouchers:

  • Vouchers can be purchased for anything, i.e. workshops, open access or an ELP supporter subscription.
  • They can also be simply for a monetary value, i.e. they do not have to specify what the voucher is for – it can just be a monetary amount that can be used to purchase something at ELP.
  • Vouchers can only be purchased via the studio coordinator by emailing [email protected]
  • A specially designed, Riso-printed gift voucher will be posted 1st class either to the purchaser or the recipient of the voucher, as requested.
  • All vouchers are valid for one year from the date of purchase.
  • Please email Susan on [email protected]for more information.

Monoprint & Monotype

ELP is pleased to announce the latest course coming to the studio next month; Monoprint and the Monotype. Taking place October 18th, this captivating class will also be taught by two course leaders: Ann Norfield and Fiona Fouhy, giving you double the experience and knowledge at your finger tips.

The Monotype is an entirely unique print and created through a process of oily inks being pressed and transferred from a flat surface onto paper. This particular process is very favourable for those who prefer a more painterly effect to their prints, as gestural and textural marks can be achieved through the use of a wide variety of tools which can either remove or apply the ink to your plate. Through these tools, this course offers you the chance to explore the boundaries of mark making.

Monoprinting is ultimately a very flexible and liberating process that is not only a great introduction to Printmaking, but can also be applied to other relief and intaglio techniques to add texture, depth and tone… Whether you are a complete beginner to printmaking, a Lino cutter or even an Etcher, this course will bring a new dynamic to your skill set.

Japanese Woodblock

27 September, 4 October, 11 October 10:00am 4:30pm

Course Leader – Wuon-Gean Ho

We are pleased to announce our latest course here at East London Printmakers. Japanese Woodblock is a beautiful non-toxic printmaking technique with a long history of tradition. On this course you will learn how Hokusai made his prints with multiple blocks that fit together seamlessly in order to create his iconic works. You will learn a bit about the history of Japanese woodblock prints and look at artists working in this field at the moment. You will design your own multi-coloured prints starting with a single postcard sized image, and working towards a two to four colour image. You will be taught how to use the traditional tools to carve your image in soft shina plywood, and learn how to print by hand onto traditional Japanese paper with traditional brushes, water based paints and glue.

Carving tools are supplied so you can take these home to continue printing at home after the course.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, then there are still a couple of places left, continue reading and book your place here.

You can also take a look at Wuon-Gean’s work here:

Jenni Allen

Jenni Allen is a printmaker who explores colour, pattern and form through screen print using drawing, photographs, found imagery and collage to achieve artwork that is intricate as well as bold.

She takes inspiration from varied sources including modern religious architecture and natural history imagery.
Screen printed in vibrant flat colour, with the occasional hint of metallic, the work has a strong sense of order and precision resulting in a satisfying mix of structured lines and shapes.

A selection of prints are presented within the confines of a circle and display a prominent uniformity, which appear to give a snapshot of a repeating pattern, evidence of the artist’s textile design background.

The latest course this summer here at East London Printmakers, running this 25th June: 10:00am – 4:30pm, course leader – Lucy Smith.

Cyanotype is one of the earliest forms of photographic process, distinctive for its Prussian blue monochrome prints. The process involves contact printing with paper coated in light-sensitive solution, either using photographic negatives, or making photograms of objects and other materials. The process is easy to learn, ideal for experimentation, and can be done at home using daylight.

During this introductory one-day course you will get an overview of the Cyanotype process, learn how to prepare your own light-sensitive Cyanotype paper, explore a number of alternative sources of ‘negative’ to print with and practice exposing and developing the paper to produce prints.

Sadly this course is already fully booked, but stay tuned to see it return next year.

A reminder to all supporters of ELP that we are holding our Summer Open Studio on 17th June from 4 to 8pm. Please tell all your friends and let’s make this the best open studio yet. There will be print sales, art stalls of all shapes and sizes, live demos, plenty of drinks and snacks and of course, great company… We hope to see you there!

We are very pleased to be running this event in conjunction with Bow Arts Art Map!

We encourage you to see this as an opportunity to invite anyone who has not yet had a chance to see our spectacular new space, and let’s celebrate the sunshine together.
