Statement
Observing the archaic qualities of old ripped posters, where layers reveal layers and a sense of age and time is clearly present, Jairo and Nicola have taken inspiration from old propaganda and billboard posters, typography, symbolism and German Expressionist cinema.
As old billboards decay, the original meaning becomes irrelevant, a transformation into something more suggestive. With the use of a blowtorch and screenprinting facilities, Jairo and Nicola seek to push this process further; images fading, sections crumbling, colours erupting and areas which are left intact. They have embarked on work which contains strong ingredients of chance and destruction.
