ELP Artist in Residence June-December 2008
Statement
I am very interested in the career of 'artist' – how one comes about choosing such a practice and what one must do as their 'day job' to survive. As a recent New Zealand printmaking graduate I am one of very few from my class who is continuing to make art as it is difficult to get funding and also find facilities. It is all too easy to get stuck in the cycle of full-time work and lose your inspiration and motivation to create art. I love the constant challenge of the career and I have always been driven by the wonderful feeling of creation.
I enjoy working with the processes of silkscreen and lithography and create one-off works on unusual materials such as leather, rubber, velvet and wallpaper. My work is heavily layered and vibrant and often includes mixed media aspects as well as stitching and padding.
